Solar Energy and its Uses

Solar energy is a radiant energy created by the sun. Every single day the sun radiates, or sends out, an immense quantity of energy. The sun radiates more energy in a single second than people have used since the beginning of time! The energy of the Sun derives from within the sun itself. Like other stars, the sun is a big ball of gases––mostly hydrogen and helium atoms.

Solar power is used in a number of different ways, of course. There are two standard forms of solar energy:
  • Solar Thermal Energy- Solar thermal energy collects the sun's warmth through 1 of 2 means: in water or in an anti-freeze (glycol) mixture.
  • Solar photovoltaic energy- Solar photovoltaic energy converts the sun's radiation to usable electricity.

Uses of Solar Energy

The use of solar energy appliances is one of the best ideas to cut the expenditure on energy. The solar energy is also used in for

Residential Purpose

  • Solar Energy can be used for heating water with the help of solar water heater. The photovoltaic cell is been installed on the roof of the residents to collect the solar energy and is used to warm the water.
  • Solar energy can also be used in producing the electricity. Batteries will store energy captured in day time and supply power in night.
  • Solar energy can be used for cooking as cooking food is a necessity of every household. These are very eco-friendly and don’t assist in any kind of pollution, global warming or ozone layer depletion, for that matter.

Commercial and industrial purpose

  • Solar energy is frequently used to power the radio and TV station as it is reliable, renewable, affordable, and need less maintenance.
  • Solar energy is also used to supply power to lighthouse and warning light for aircraft.
  • It is also used in office, warehouse and industry for power supply generated through solar energy.
  • The solar energy is also used in major industries for providing power for manufacturing process.

Remote application

  • Remote building like school, community hall and clinic also use the solar energy.
  • Specialized water pump is used which run on solar energy to pump water in remote area for portable water supply.
  • Large scale desalination plant also use power generated from solar energy instead of electricity
